Thanks to his successful high school running career, David was awarded a scholarship to the University of Arizona, where he competed and made the All Region team all four years. During his collegiate career, David competed in 3 NCAA National Championships, narrowly missing All American honors. In 1999 he help the Wildcats capture the PAC-10 Cross Country Championship title with a 5th place overall finish and a time of 24:02 for the 8k course. His collegiate track and field career found him focusing on the 5k and 10k with respective PRs of 14:26 and 29:32. He also ran one 1500 in 4:01. After college he made an attempt to go pro but a six month injury sidelined him and he decided to take a break from running. In 2006 he found himself assistant coaching at his alma mater, Hoover High School, where his flame for running began to rekindle. In 2007, after a 4 year hiatus from running he found himself slowly getting back to it. With some assistance from the running gods, he found his way to Top Speed Running where he is now working and running as a part of Top Speed Running Elite. His focus is now on the marathon and on the next Olympic Games.
